A very good point! As a language teacher I’d say that this is the best way to learn new words! :)

At the language centre, we advise students to generally avoid writing down vocabulary with a translation into the native language. We think students progress faster by writing down vocabulary with an example sentence that makes it clear what the word means in its original language.
